How to Beat Procrastination and Get Stuff Done
In today’s fast-paced world, it can be difficult to stay on top of everything. There are always more tasks to do, more emails to answer, and more commitments to keep. If you’re feeling overwhelmed because you’re unproductive yet get anxiety when you start a task, don’t worry. Been down that spiral myself.
Here are a few ways I stop procrastinating and get shit done.
Set Clear Goals
First off, we have to identify what you want to achieve. Once we figure that out, you can start breaking down your goals into smaller, more manageable tasks to help you reach that goal.
Plan Your Day
Take some time each morning or the night before to plan ahead. I typically like to stick to a routine so calendar blocking or time blocking helps me visualize how much time I need to get a task done and stick to my schedule so I don’t miss any tasks I need to accomplish within the day.
Prioritize Tasks
Not all tasks are created equal. Of course, there will be some tasks more important or more urgent than others. Prioritize your tasks so that you can focus on the most important ones first. I personally like using a task matrix that categorizes tasks based on importance and urgency. So tasks that are both important and urgent will be the first tasks I prioritize accomplishing.
Eliminate Distractions
One of the biggest productivity killers is distractions. When you’re trying to focus on a task, it’s important to eliminate as many distractions as possible. This means either turning off your phone or using a timer app that blocks you from using your phone, closing your email, and finding a quiet place to work.
Take Breaks
If you think breaks are counterproductive, but taking breaks in between tasks can help with your overall productivity by avoiding burnout. When you take breaks, you give your mind and body a chance to rest and recharge. This will help you come back to your work refreshed and focused.
Reward Yourself
When you complete a task, take some time to reward yourself. This could be as simple as eating a snack during your breaks, or watching your favorite TV show or movie after you work.
Following these tips can help you be more productive and get more done. However, it’s important to remember that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to productivity. What works for me may not work for you. Experiment with different techniques and find what works best for you.
Improving your overall productivity takes time and effort, but it’s worth it. By following these tips, it may bring you one step closer to being more productive to get things done.
